TruSculpt at Skiin

TruSculpt is the latest non-invasive technology to reduce fat and address a wide range of aesthetic concerns on the body. It’s clinically proven to deliver deep, uniform heating to tackle the toughest concerns with comfort and ease − even on the smallest of areas of the body. Skiin is proud to offer TruSculpt treatment at our clinic to assist patients with excess fat in unwanted areas.

How TruSculpt Works

The TruSculpt system is a breakthrough non-surgical procedure that uses radiofrequency waves to deliver deep heat to targeted areas of the body. It’s designed to treat multiple zones of the body, including the thighs, buttocks and other stubborn areas.

TruSculpt was developed based on findings from the only published, peer-reviewed study demonstrating time-temperature dependency on adipose cell viability. The in-vitro testing demonstrated 60% loss of cell viability following a sustained temperature of 45°C to adipose cells for 3 minutes.

To achieve optimal results, maintaining peak temperature is as important as reaching peak temperature. In addition to the numerous advanced features integrated in TruSculpt, the system features a built-in temperature monitoring and feedback system. This provides real-time readings of skin temperature to ensure required therapeutic parameters are achieved and sustained for a minimum of 3 minutes.

Aayurvedic therapy: massage procedure with oil and pouch of rice and spices

Ayurveda Is About Wellness, Not Illness

Ayurveda philosophy is based on the theory that balance of body, mind and spirit determines the health and wellness of the patient. The focus of treatment is to promote good health and wellness, rather than fight disease. But treatments may be recommended for specific health problems.

Ayurveda is considered a form of CAM or complementary and alternative medicine.

Ayurveda Concepts

According to Ayurvedic theory, everything in the universe is connected. Good health is achieved when your mind, body, and spirit are in harmony with the universe. A disruption of this harmony can lead to poor health and sickness.

For disciples of Ayurveda philosophy everything alive or dead has an impact on your health and wellness, and anything that affects your physical, spiritual, or emotional well-being can cause you to be out of balance with the universe.

SKIN CARE LAYERING RULES

If you are a skincare lover, your beauty cabinet is most likely bursting at the seams with products. Cleansers, toners, serums, moisturisers, you name it – you’ve probably used it on your face. Majority of the time, we rely on creating a cocktail of products in hopes of achieving a healthy, glowing complexion.  Whilst many dermatologists will agree that layering skincare products can be very beneficial for your skin, there is a catch—some ingredients do more harm than good when applied in tandem. According to celebrity aesthetician Renée Rouleau, there are certain skin-care ingredients that, when combined, actually cancel each other out, or worse, could cause a major skin reaction. Here is an updated do-not- mix list:

Retinol & Benzoyl Peroxide

Whilst this may seem a good idea as both ingredients help to fight acne and break outs, retinol stimulates cell production and can leave the skin extra sensitive. Benzoyl peroxide works by drying the skin, which causes double the irritation in tandem with retinol. “The combination can inflame and irritate the skin, which is not what you want from your at-home products.” Says Rouleau

Retinol & Glycolic Acid

Prescription retinoids, like Retin-A, and glycolic acid are both proven to be very effective anti-ageing ingredients, but in this case two is not better than one. “While prescription retinoids can be more effective for resurfacing sun-damaged skin, they are even more irritating to the skin than non-prescription retinol,” explains Rouleau. Drying and peeling is common, until your skin gets used to the retinoid. When this dryness occurs, it causes small, superficial cracks in the skin, which allow moisture to escape more easily, and irritants to get into the skin more readily. “Since an AHA like glycolic acid has a lower pH than the skin has (which is how it dissolves dry cells on the surface of the skin), this damaged protective barrier can be exacerbated when using at the same time as a prescription retinoid,” says Rouleau. “The result can potentially cause a slight burn to the skin, similar to that of a chemical peel.” Her advice: You can still use them both, just use them on different evenings.

Cleansing Oils & Treatment Serums

In this case, there’s no danger of over treating the skin. Cleansing oils are fantastic for removing dirt, makeup and oil without stripping or dying out the skin but they leave a barrier, which could be cancelling out all the products you use afterwards. “These oils, while they feel luxurious to use and leave dry skin types feeling very soft, can leave a residue and barrier on the skin,” says Rouleau. “If you apply a treatment serum afterwards — with ingredients like beta-glucan, peptides, or vitamin C — it will prevent these active ingredients from getting deep within the skin where they need to go to provide skin correction.” The solution: Use cleansing oils in either the morning or the evening — whichever time of the day you don’t use a treatment serum.

Vitamin C & Acids

This includes lactic, glycolic, salicylic, malic or tartaric acid. These AHAs and BHAs lower the pH of your skin, and dissolve surface dry skin cells. Adding your own vitamin C to an acid might mean that the ratio of C to acid will cause redness and peeling.

Foundation & SPF

Whilst this may be a tempting timesaver, it’s not advised. “It’s best never to mix your sunscreen and foundation makeup (or your moisturizer) together, because then you are not getting the full SPF number listed on the bottle,” Rouleau says. “A sunscreen is a drug that has been tested and approved by the FDA in its final form. Changing the formula by adding moisturizer or foundation makeup will alter a drug, so you can’t be 100% sure that it’s going to protect you.”

We rely on an variety of ingredients in different formulas to help us achieve healthy, glowing skin. We know layering products achieves fantastic results, some mixed together can do more harm than good. Some ingredients, when layered together, can cancel each other out or cause a reaction in the skin.

Cleansing oils are fantastic for removing dirt, makeup and oil without stripping or dying out the skin but they leave a barrier, which could block out all the products you use afterwards. Any active ingredients, such as Vitamin C, applied after may not be able to effectively penetrate the skin. HOT TIP: Use your cleansing oil when you’re not using a serum, ie. if you don’t use your serums in the morning this is when you should use your oil.

It’s not a good idea to mix the two together as you are not getting the full effect of the SPF. By adding foundation to the SPF you are changing it’s formula. HOT TIP: Layer the foundation on top of the SPF, making sure you give the SPF to settle and dry before applying the foundation.

*Lasers and IPL have been used commercially since the mid-90’s for hair removal, but still there is some confusion between the two: isn’t it the same thing? They’re both as good as each other. Well, no. Whilst there is one main similarity, they are both light-based treatments, there are some significant differences resulting in laser being the clear winner for long lasting hair removal. So, how does long lasting hair removal work? Both treatments involve producing light energy that is then absorbed into the dark pigment of the hair. This is designed to damage the hair follicle, destroying the hair root and disable any further hair growth. The light produced is absorbed best by darker pigments, meaning darker hair responds better to any type of hair removal. Those with ‘peach-fuzz’, blonde, red or grey hairs will have some difficulty with most lasers, but there are some which can better treat those hair types – so don’t lose all hope!

Let’s Get Technical:

Lasers utilise one wavelength to selectively target one specific chromophore (melanin). This allows for deeper penetration and the energy is directed straight to the target and not absorbed by the other chromophores in the path of the beam. Lasers will selectively destroy specific targets and not cause harm to the surrounding tissue when used properly. Laser machines are set to emit the exact wavelength required to treat your hair. IPL devices on the other hand are not lasers. These devices produce a broad spectrum of wavelengths and cannot be focused to a concentrated beam. Because a range of different wavelengths is dispersed at a variety of depths only some of these are totally absorbed by the hair follicle, causing substandard results. IPL typically use a range of wavelengths from 500 – 1000nm and in the method that these wavelengths are exposed to the skin there is no ability for the light to discriminate between chromophores. IPL devices provide a broad range of wavelengths that are absorbed by various chromophores within the skin and due to the broad spectrum of light, obtaining sufficient energy to destroy certain deep targets such as hair often presents a challenge. Smaller, more superficial targets such as pigment and vascular legions absorb the majority of the energy. In order to heat deeper targets, higher energy levels need to be employed which increase the risk of burns and various complications. These adverse effects include hyper-pigmentation, hypo-pigmentation, blistering and potentially scarring. The advantages of using Laser over IPL:

  • IPL is a cheaper, less effective technology for reducing body hair.
  • Lasers are far more precise and can selectively target dark, coarse hair while leaving the surrounding areas undamaged.
  • Each laser pulse takes a fraction of a second and can treat several hairs at a time.
  • Laser settings can be adjusted to suit your specific skin tone and hair colour.
  • Lasers have the capability to safely treat all skin colours, whereas IPLs can cause burn on darker skin types.

The main difference between Laser and IPL for hair removal purposes mainly lies in the technology that each use to generate light as well as the different properties of light being used. Laser technology is simply much more precise, and achieves substantially better results than IPL with most clients achieving optimal results of hair removal of 80% or greater after 4-8 treatments. IPL’s do however have an important place in the treatment of skin. IPL treatments such as our LimeLight Facial provides adequate treatment for skin problems such as superficial pigmentation, redness and capillaries but do not provide preferable results with hair removal. In addition, these devices are not suitable for darker skin.

Acne Laser Treatment in Melbourne

From comedonal acne to cystic acne, there are many varieties of this common skin condition. As a result, Skiin offers acne laser treatment in Melbourne to the estimated 90% of the population that is affected at some time or another. Our qualified doctors will use a trusted skin laser treatment for acne that aims to clear up skin and boost self-confidence.

Types of Acne

Primarily hormonal in nature, acne is a common physical condition that comes in a variety of types. At Skiin, we offer acne treatments in Melbourne that target the following types:

Comedonal Acne

Also known as non-inflammatory acne, comedonal acne is a mild form of the condition that’s defined by numerous blackheads (or comedones). The comedones are caused by oil, dead skin cells, and environmental factors like makeup, dirt and sweat which collect around the pores and block the follicles.

Inflammatory Acne

If comedonal acne is not treated, it may lead to inflammatory acne. The follicles will become inflamed and red in colour as the body tries its best to combat potential infection of the skin follicle. At Skiin, we offer inflammatory acne treatment with laser treatment.

Cystic Acne

The most serious form of acne can be recognised by its raised red lumps, which contain fluid caused by white blood cells working to consume the infection established in the blocked skin follicle.

Cystic acne can cause flat or raised post-acne scarring and Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH), which can add to the uneven texture of the skin.

Stages of Pimple Development and Healing

Before seeking laser acne removal, it can be beneficial to learn of the different stages of acne. The full list of pimple and acne development includes:

  • Comedone – Known as a blackhead
  • Closed comedone – Known as a whitehead
  • Papule – A solid elevation or lesion on the skin without visible fluid.
  • Pustule – An elevation or lesion on the skin containing white, yellow or green-ish yellow fluid.
  • Macule – A circular lesion or mark that can alter the skin colour without elevating or depressing it. These are the marks that appear on the skin as acne is beginning to heal. On dark-skinned patients, they are often associated with Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (or PIH).

Acne laser treatment is an involved process, depending on where you are in the stages of development. With our dedicated staff of nurses, doctors, aesthetic physicians and cosmetic clinicians, you’ll be in expert hands throughout your skin laser treatment for acne.

How Can We Help?

Laser Genesis

Laser Genesis gently heats the upper dermis level of the skin to stimulate the growth of collagen. Collagen is the structural protein found in connective tissues and is an important component of the skin, providing strength and a degree of elasticity which gives skin a youthful appearance. When the treatment is required to reduce redness, additional heat is generated in the dilated capillaries to ‘close down’ the tiny veins and capillaries that cause a red appearance on the skin. The treatment produces no side effects for most patients, but requires multiple sessions to achieve the best results. Most people require a series of at least 6 treatments, carried out every 4 weeks, to obtain optimal results. Please note that you will not see immediate results, as the procedure has a gradual but consistent effect. Our Laser Genesis Machine is imported from the USA and provides the best care for your skin.

Skin Needling

Skiin uses the latest Micro/Skin needling technology, helping to treat everything from lines and wrinkles through to uneven pigmentation. Our Micro/Skin needling machine is imported from Germany to provide the best treatment to your skin to look beautiful and can be used for Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) and Scar Reduction Therapy (SRT). It involves using an automated electronic stamping device to create micro-channels in the skin, stimulating the skin tissue to promote healing and rejuvenation. In addition to the formation of new collagen, this non-invasive procedure also results in improved blood supply, making it a suitable treatment option for a range of skin concerns and conditions.

Customised Skin Peels

Customised Skin Peels keep the skin looking and feeling its best at any age. Skin Peels are great for treating sun damaged skin and bringing dull, weathered skins back to life.

We use the best Skin Peels to suit your skin needs.

At Skiin we offer a range of customised skin peels to treat skin conditions as follows.

  • Dull tired skin
  • Uneven skin texture and tone
  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles
  • Enlarged Pores
  • Acne Skins
  • Sun Damage and Photo Damage Skins
  • Melasma
  • Actinic and Seborrhoea Keratosis
  • Hyper Pigmentation

LED Therapy

LED Therapy is a pain free, non-invasive, soothing and rejuvenating skin treatment. This treatment will help treat many skin conditions such as acne breakouts, fine lines and wrinkles, post inflammatory scarring and Rosacea. It is also fantastic for before or after laser treatment. Our Machine at Skiin is classed as the most powerful unit in the world in total power output providing instant results.

What’s the difference between IPL and Laser: a beginner’s guide.

*

Lasers and IPL have been used commercially since the mid-90’s for hair removal, but still there is some confusion between the two: isn’t it the same thing?
