What is MLD?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle massage-based technique used to decongest the lymphatic system and encourage general circulation.

It is used to assist with recovery from certain procedures, swelling of the joints, chronic oedema and to aid in cleansing unnecessary toxins from the body. As it is a stimulating treatment also, it can help to aid with digestion.

How long does it take?

As the treatments are customised the time does vary, however most sessions range between 30-60 minutes. Depending on the case and degree of swelling, MLD may be provided up to 3-4 times a week.

Is there any downtime?

There is no downtime with MLD, you may experience some warmth and slight pink tone to the skin but nothing more than that. More often than not clients find it to be quite relaxing.

Pre care:

  • Consult with your regular GP to ensure MLD is an appropriate treatment for your concern
  • Drink plenty of water before commencement of your treatment

Post care:

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Avoid excessive exercise/ general overheating of the body
  • Elevate the area
  • Wear compression garments is necessary
  • Clients can sometimes experience headache like systems
